Question 1154886: An airplane can cruise at 255 mph in still air. If a steady wind of 46 mph is blowing from the west, what heading should the pilot fly to end up at a heading of 0 degrees (due North)?
Answer by ikleyn(52776)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.

Right angle triangle with the hypotenuse of 255 miles in the second quarter (starting from the origin of the coordinate system)

and the leg of 46 miles parallel to x-axis.

The angle of heading is = = 0.180392 with the y-axis.

Having clear instructions, you do the rest.

I am not familiar with this aviation / pilot's terminology; therefore, I use the terms related to coordinate plane.
