It's (another) triangle problem.
1 side is 24 km, 8 km/hr for 3 hours.

Assuming the speed didn't change (we should not have to make assumptions), the second side is 8*5 = 40 kms

Use the Cosine Law or the Law of Sines to find the rest of the triangle.

PS Boats use knots for speed, not km/hr.
Strangely enough, we used maps, UTM maps, giving coordinates in meters and kms in Vietnam, but the airspeed was in knots. Getting it wrong and going to the wrong place could be fatal.
