A person in a balloon which is 1200 feet above the airport finds that the angle of depression to a ship at sea is 58 degrees. Find the horizontal distance between the balloon and the ship.
---
Sketch the picture.
You have a right triangle with height = 1200 ft
The angle opposite the height is 58 degrees.
Find the base.
tan(58) = 1200/base
base = 1200/tan(58) = 749.84 ft
