Question 1092476: Two girls are standing on directly opposite sides of a pole that is 40feet long.Their angles of elevation to the top of the pole measures30° and 42°.Find the distance between the two girls.

It helps to draw this. From one girl the tangent of 30 is=height of the pole/distance to the pole (opposite/adjacent)
That is tan 30=40/d
d=40/tan 30=69.28'
================
For the other pole tan 42=40/d, and d=40/tan 42=44.42'
The total is 113.7' apart.
