Question 1086220: I need to solve this - hoping for help.
2sin^2(theta) - 5sin(theta) + 3 = 0, on [0,2pi]

Answer by rothauserc(4718)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2sin^2(theta) - 5sin(theta) + 3 = 0
:
factor the left hand side
:
(sin(theta) - 1) * (2sin(theta) - 3) = 0
:
there are multiple solutions
:
1) sin(theta) - 1 = 0
sin(theta) = 1
take the inverse sin
theta = pi/2
:
2) 2sin(theta) - 3 = 0
sin(theta) = 3/2
the inverse sin(3/2) is not defined on [0, 2pi] since it is an imaginary number
