Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the quadrilateral has sides whose lengths are:
x
x+3
x-4
2x
the perimeter of the quadrilateral is the sum of the length of each side.
therefore, the perimeter would be x + x + 3 + x - 4 + 2x
combine like terms and the perimeter becomes 5x - 1
how does this work?
let's assume x is equal to 10.
when x = 10, the length of each side would be:
x = 10
x+3 = 13
x-4 = 6
2x = 20
the perimeter would be 10 + 13 + 6 + 20 = 49
we said the perimeters was 5x - 1 in terms of x.
when x = 10, 5x - 1 = 49
your solution is that the perimeter is equal to 5x - 1 in terms of x.

side1 = x
side2 = x+3
side3 = x-4
side4 = 2x
Add up the four sides to get the perimeter P
P = (side1) + (side2) + (side3) + (side4)
P = (x) + (x+3) + (x-4) + (2x)
P = x + x + 3 + x - 4 + 2x
P = (x+x+x+2x) + (3-4)
P = 5x - 1
Answer: 5x - 1
