^ does NOT mean "squared". ^ means "raised to the power of", and you have to supply number, as in "sin^2". You also need to provide an argument for your functions, such as

There is nothing to prove. Did you leave out an equals sign somewhere? Did you leave out half of the problem? The whole thing makes no sense.
