Question 1081741: A straight trail with a uniform inclination of 16 degrees leads from a lodge at an elevation of 500ft. To a mountain lake at an elevation of 5600ft. What is the length of the trail?

The trail is the hypotenuse of a right triangle the altitude of which is 5100'.
The angle from the lodge is opposite from that altitude.
The sine would involve the opposite/hypotenuse=5100'/hypotenuse
hypotenuse=5100/sin 16=18,503', or about 3 1/2 miles.
