Suppose that the diameters of the pulleys are 14 inches and 5 inches and that the centers of the pulleys are separated by 3ft. Find the length of the belt connecting them in inches. Assume that the belt goes around the outside of each wheel and there is no slack in the belt.

A semicircle on each pulley is:
Length of belt touching the pulleys =
(1/2)pi(14+5) = 29.845"

Ans:: 3ft + 3ft + (29.845/12)ft = 8.487ft
