An 18-newton force acting at 56° and a 23-newton force acting at 142° act concurrently on an object. What is the magnitude and direction of the resultant vector?
-------
Let the resultant be (x,y)::
x = 18cos(56)+23cos(142) = -8.06
y = 18sin(56)+23sin(142) = 29.08
------
magnitude = sqrt[8.06^2+29.08^2] = 30.18 newtons
direction = arctan(29.08/-8.06) = -74.51 + 360 = 285.49 degrees
-------------
