Question 1007305: Please help me solve this trignometric problem
While standing at the left corner of the schoolyard in front of her school, Suzie estimates that the front face is 8.9 m wide and 4.7 m high. From her position, Suzie is 12 m from the base of the right exterior wall. She determines that the left and right exterior walls appear to be 39 degrees apart. From her position, what is the angle of elevation, to the nearest degree, to the top of the left exterior wall?
Answer by josgarithmetic(39620) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Drawing a picture or two on paper will help.
Suzie stands at D. Bottom of right wall is R, and bottom of left wall is L. Right angle of the triangle is at L. DR is the hypotenuse of 12 meters.
How far is Suzie from the left wall? What is the length DL?
Interior angle of triangle at D is given as 39 degrees.
.
Same as .
Next part, same points L and D, but point at top of the left wall, nearest corner there at the top, U. This makes triangle DLU. Understand from described, LU=4.7 meters.

Putting in values now,
-----and you will not need hypotenuse UD.
Use tangent function. Question asks for angle at point D, but now for this "next part" triangle. for this angle of elevation,
You want

continuing,
, to the nearest whole degree.
(Rechecked on paper now three times - certain!)
