Question 96958: I would just like to verify this is correct. My answer only leaves 6 degrees for the last angle, which doesn't seem right.
Thanks!
The diagonal brace on a rectangular gate forms an angle with the horizontal side with degree x and an angle with the vertical side with degree measure 2x – 3. Find x.
x + (2x – 3) =180
3x – 3 = 180
3x = 177
x = 59
Answer: x = 59
Check : 1 angle is 59, 2nd angle is 115, which leaves 6 degrees for the third

Question 102369: The hypotonuse of a right triangle is 3m more than twice the short leg. The longer leg is 2 m more than twice the shorter leg. Find the lengths of the sides.
This is what I have so far, but am stuck.
x^2+(2x+2)^2=(2x+3)^2
x^2+4x^2+4x+4x+4 = 4x^2+6x+6x+9
x^2+4x^2+8x+4=4x^2+12x^2+9
now what??
