Question 985190: 10. The shortest side of triangle T is 10 cm long,
and triangle T 's area is 84 cm2 . Triangle U is
similar to triangle T, and the shortest side of
triangle U is 15 cm long. Find the area of triangle
U in cm 2 . please I need your help

Answer by rothauserc(4718)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the scale factor(comparing triangle U to triangle T) is 15 / 10 = 1.5
note draw U and T as right triangles
***********************************************************************
Triangle T has area 84 cm^2 and side 10 cm therefore
area(A) = 84 = (1/2) * 10 * x
10s = 168
x = 16.8 cm
**********************************************************************
Triangle U has side 15 and
let's apply the scale factor to triangle T's x side
y = 16.8 * 1.5 = 25.2 cm, therefore
A = (1/2) * 15 * 25.2 = 189 cm^2
***********************************************************************
Triangle U's area is 189 cm^2
