Question 957104: Two sides of a triangle are 14 inches and 18 inches long. Which is the least possible whole-number length of the third side ?
Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a-b < c < a+b
18 - 14 < c < 18+14
4 < c < 32
The missing third side is between 4 and 32 (excluding both numbers)
Since c is some whole number, this means the smallest that c can be is c = 5. Why not 4? Because c > 4 and c is not able to be equal to 4.
