Question 933683: the lengths of two sides of a triangle are 8cm and 10cm identify the range of the possible lengths for the third side?

2 < 3rd side length < 12
The length of any side has to ne less than the sum of the lengths of the other 2 sides because a straight line (side) is the shortest distance between 2 points/vertices.
If you call the 3rd length x,
x < 10+2 , so x < 12
and
x + 8 > 10 , so x > 10-8 , which means x > 2 .
