Question 913068: Find the measure of each side of the triangle JKL
J (9,9) K (12,14) L(14,6)
Would you be able to give me a example so I can solve this on my own?

Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
To find the length of say segment JL, you need to find the distance from J to L

So you need to find the distance from (9,9) to (14,6)

We use the distance formula to do that

Solved by pluggable solver: Distance Formula

The first point is (x1,y1). The second point is (x2,y2)

Since the first point is (9, 9), we can say (x1, y1) = (9, 9)
So ,

Since the second point is (14, 6), we can also say (x2, y2) = (14, 6)
So ,

Put this all together to get: , , , and

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now use the distance formula to find the distance between the two points (9, 9) and (14, 6)

Plug in , , , and

Answer:

The distance between the two points (9, 9) and (14, 6) is exactly units

The approximate distance between the two points is about 5.8309518948453 units

So again,

Exact Distance: units

Approximate Distance: units

The approximate distance from point J(9,9) to point L(14,6) is 5.8309518948453 units

So the length of JL is approximately 5.8309518948453 units (use the exact answer if the book requires it)

For more help, you can use this distance formula solver

You would apply these steps to find the length of JK and the length of KL.

Let me know if you need more help or if you need me to explain a step in more detail.
