Question 852223: Isosceles triangle ABC
AB = 5cm
BC=AC
A = 70 degrees = B
Work out the degrees of the remaining angles and the length of the other sides of the triangle
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Isosceles triangle ABC
AB = 5cm
BC=AC
A = 70 degrees = B
Work out the degrees of the remaining angles and the length of the other sides of the triangle
---------
Draw the figure and label the parts.
Since angle A = angle B = 70, angle C = 40 degrees
-------
So AB = 5 cm, and AB is opposite C.
----
Draw a perpendicular bisector from C to AB.
That creates 2 right triangles.
-------
Base of the right triangle is (1/2)5 = 2.5 cm
The base angle is 70 degrees.
The height of the perpendicular bisector is 2.5*tan(70) = 6.87
------
The hypotenuse = 6.87/sin(70) = 7.31 cm = AC
------
