Question 757459: What is the perimeter of a triangle that gives 2sides that are the same length (5"), the base which is 6" and a line down the middle forming a right angle with a length of 4"? It's for my daughter who is in 4th grade and they did not teach her this yet and as good as I am in math I couldn't figure it out. Can someone please help me?

You want the sum of the lengths of the three sides. The distance from where the two equal sides meet and the middle of the other side is not necessary, because you already have the three lengths of the triangle's sides.

The perimeter of this triangle is 5+5+6=16 inches.

That altitude or height description you gave would be useful for finding area. Since this height is not given, and since you know it meets the 6" side making right angles, you could use pythagorean theorem to find this height size.

The perimeter is just the length of all sides added up.
In this case you said two sides were 5" and the last side was 6".
Adding them all up you get 5" + 5" + 6" = 16"
The area of the triangle is found by multiplying base times height then dividing by 2.
