Question 756870: an isosceles triangle has an area of 48 ft squared. If the base is 12 ft what is the length of each leg?
Answer by sachi(548) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
area of the isoceles triangle=1/2 base*altitude
base=12 & area=48
so altitude=48*2/12=8
now the altitude divides the triangle into two right angled triangles
so each leg of the trianle=sq root [(altitude)^2+(1/2base)^2]
=sq root [(8)^2+(1/2*12)^2]=sq root [64+36]=sq root 100=10
