Question 668691: Ok I have a problem that deals with finding the the length of a hypotenuse with one if my legs being 3 radical 2. I know that the two legs are congruent because of it being an isosceles right triangle. What would I show the hypotenuse as because it say that x: x: (x radical 2). How would I show it?

If you have an isosceles right triangle, then your legs are equal, your hypotenuse is different. By our pythagorean theorem:
a^2 + b^2 = c^2 but a =b so:
a^2 + a^2 = c^2
2a^2 = c^2
2(3*sqrt(2))^2 = c^2
2 * 3^2 * sqrt(2)^2 = c^2
2* 9 * 2 = c^2
36 = c^2
<--- the form you mentioned
