Question 664792: I'm just going to start with I'm horrible at geometry... I like algebra and understand it, but I just can't wrap my brain around geometry.. So THANK YOU for helping me!
In triangle ABC, m < C=90 degrees. If AC=6 and BC=8, find AB
Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If angle C measures 90 degrees, then angle C is a right angle by definition and triangle ABC is a right triangle by definition. AC and BC, since they have endpoints at the right angle vertex, must be the legs of the triangle. Use Pythagoras:
where
and
are the measures of BC and AC (doesn't matter which, it all comes out in the wash. Though by convention, the designations would be in the order given)
Or just note that this is a 3-4-5 right triangle and the measure of the hypotenuse has to be 10.
Finally, cut the whiney, "woe is me, I can't understand (whatever)" nonsense. It is an annoying waste of tutors' valuable time to wade through that bunch of BS just to get to your question. Spend your time more wisely by explaining what you have tried on your own to answer the question so that we have a better idea of what you actually need. And for pity's sake, do NOT write back and apologize -- I don't want to hear that either.

My calculator said it, I believe it, that settles it
