This problem has completely confused me but here goes nothing:
sqrt 5 - sqrt 3 = sqrt2
sqrt 5 + sqrt 3 = sqrt8
sqrt 2 + sqrt 8 = sqrt 10
sqrt 10 + 4 = sqrt 14
