Question 656458: The area of a triangle is 1/2 the base times the hight. If the height of a triangle is 3 cm and the area is 24 sq. cm, then what is one-half the length of the base of the triangle?

The area of a triangle is found by A = (1/2)bh. A better way to look at this may be: A = (b*h)/2
So, we start there and then just plug in the given values h=3 cm and A=24:
A = (b*h)/2
24 = (b*3)/2
24 = 3b/2 (just cleaned it up a bit)
To get rid of that pesky /2, let's multiply both sides by 2:
48 = 3b (see, no more bad fractions! :)
16 = b (divided both sides by 3)
So if base = 16, then 1/2 of the base is 8.
Question: Why were you asked for 1/2 the base?
