Question 618938: a triangle has 17 inches , 144 inches and 145 inches . use the pythagorean theorem and your calculator to determine whether or not it is a right triangle

If it is a right angle triangle then the Pythagorean theorem will prove to be true i.e. the hypotenuse (the longest side) can be accurately calculated from the measurements of the other two sides using the theorem.
Let us call the hypotenuse 'c' and the other two sides 'a' and 'b'
The theorem states that
so in this case:
should be equal to:
As both are equal then there is indeed a right angle.
