13. Quilting Many quilts feature squares that are made up of triangles. Explain why placing four congruent isosceles right triangles as shown above always result in a square.

I know that it must have something to do with the diagonals of a square and how they create perpendicular lines, but I'd really appreciate it if someone could help explain this to me a little farther.

yes, the diagonals of a rhombus are perpendicular; but not all rhombuses are squares

the four congruent isosceles right triangles all have the same hypotenuse, so the quadrilateral formed is a rhombus

the base angles of four congruent isosceles right triangles are all 45º, so when two are adjacent (to form a corner)
___ the corner is a right angle - making the rhombus a square
