Question 522898: The perimeter of a right triangle is 50cm and one of the lengths is 10cm. How do I find the other side and the length of the hypotenuse with this information?
P = a + b + c
(c)squared = (a)squared + (b)squared
a = 10cm
b = ?
c = ?

Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Perimeter =50
one side = 10
The sum of other 2 sides = 40
let one side be x
other side = 40-x
10^2+(40-x)^2=x^2
100+1600-80x+x^2=x^2
1700=80x
1700/80=x
x=21.25
40-21.25=18.75
The sides are 10, 18.75,21.25 cm
The longest side is always the hypotenuse
Check
10^2+18.75^2=451.56
21.25^2=451.56
