Question 486124: What is the length of side A if the hypotenuse is 16 meters and the angle opposite side A is 18 degrees? What is the length of side B? It is a right triangle.
I have never had trig and this question is for an online KNH class. I've tried researching for the answer and know that this is an ASA problem and the law of sines (a formula I've never used before) is needed. Iknow that A+B+C = 180 degrees so that means the angle opposite of side B is 72 degrees. I know that I solve both sides the same way. I've tried 16/90 = A/18...A = sin(18)16/sin(90)= 3.2 and but not sure if that is right.

the law of sines states that the lengths of the sides of a triangle are in the same proportions as the sines of the opposite angles

in a right triangle, the sine of the angle opposite the hypotenuse (the 90º right angle) is 1
___ so for the other two sides; the length of the side is the sine of the opposite angle, multiplied by the hypotenuse

your equation (which seems correct) says sin, but the results do not bear that out
___ there should be a sin key on your calculator, or there is a "scientific" calculator built into Windows
