Question 454826: I need to find the area of the isosceles triangle with side lengths 12 inches, 25 inches and 25 inches

Answer by richwmiller(17219)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
if the sides are 25, 25 and 12
then if we drop a line from the angle to the middle of the 12 in side we have two right triangles.
the hypotenuse will be 25 one leg 6 and the othe rleg x
25^2=6^2+x^2
x=sqrt(589)=24.2693
area is 1/2 bh
but we have two equal right triangles.
6*24.2693=145.6158 sq inches
