Question 448408: how do you find the area of an equilateral triangle with side length 2 radical 3

If you construct an altitude of the triangle it divides the triangle into two equal 30-60-90 triangles. 30-60-90 triangles have side in this proportion 1:sqrt(3):2
Since the hypotenuse is 2sqrt(3) then the base is sqrt(3) and the altitude is sqrt(3)*sqrt(3)=3 of one of the 30-60-90 triangles.
.5ab=A(triangle)
.5*2sqrt(3)*3=3sqrt(3) Area of the equilateral triangle
