Question 391235: justneed to check my answer to this problem...once again working with sin, cos, and tan in the math solver.
the question: the leaning tower of piza is 179 feet high, making a 5.1 degree angle with the vertical. find the distance from the base of the tower to the vertical. round your solution to the nearest foot.
i got: 178.3 feet by putting cos(5.1)-(x/179) into the math solver
*we have to put the calculator into degree mode in my class
please help as soon as possible!!

--------------
Draw the picture.
You have a right triangle with height = 179 ft. with a 5.1 degree
angle at the top of the tower. The 90 degree angle is on the ground.
An angle of 84.9 degrees is at the base of the tower.
--------------------
The side opposite the 5.1 degree angle is the distance from the base
of the tower to the vertical.
sin(5.1) = base/179
base = 179*sin(5.1) = 15.912 ft.
