The bisector of the 1º gives 2 right triangles.
1/2 the 3rd side = 2700*sin(0.5º) =~ 23.5616 miles
x2 =~ 47.12 miles

Or, use the Cosine Law:
s^2 = 2700^2 + 2700^2 - 2*2700*2700*cos(1º)
Same answer.

PS There is "a formula" to solve this problem, but it's the "hard way" to do it.
Many problems don't have a formula, you have to figure them out.
