Each leg of an isosceles triangle exceeds twice the base by 5 inches.
Find each side of the triangle if the perimeter is 5 feet.
:
Change 5 ft to 60 inches
:
Let b = length of the base
then
(2b+5) = the other two sides
:
The perimeter:
2(2b+5) = b = 60
4b + 10 + b = 60
4b + b = 60 - 10
5b = 50
b =
b = 10 inches is the base
and
2(10) + 5 = 25 inches are the other two sides
;
Check, find the perimeter: 25 + 25 + 10 = 60 inches
