Building A and building B are 200 and 900 feet respectively.
Two two buildings are placed side by side and a telephone wire is connected from the top of building A to the top of building B creating a 20 degree angle from building B to building A.
Find the distance between the two building. Round to two decimals
:
Draw or visualize a right triangle, where:
Side opposite the angle = difference between the building heights: 700 ft
The wire is the hypotenuse
the horizontal side is the distance (d) between the building
:
We can use the tangent of 20 degrees (side opposite/side adjacent)
tan(20) =
.36397 =
.36397d = 700
d =
d = 1923.24 feet
