By the Pythagorean Theorem we have:
(2x)^2 = x^2 + 12^2
4x^2 = x^2 + 144
3x^2 = 144
x^2 = 48
x = sqrt(48)
x = sqrt(16*3)
x = sqrt(16)*sqrt(3)
x = 4*sqrt(3)
