The lengths of the sides of an isosceles triangle are represented by
2x + 5, 2x - 6, and 3x-3.
What are the lengths of the sides of the triangle?
:
An isosceles triangle has two equal sides
:
But 2x + 5 cannot equal 2x -6
therefore
3x-3 = 2x - 6
or
3x-3 = 2x + 5; this one will have a positive solution
3x - 2x = 5 + 3
x = 8
:
side one: 2(8) + 5 = 21
side two: 2(8) - 6 = 10
side three: 3(8) - 3 = 21
