Find the area of the triangle with vertices:
A (-7,-3)
B (-7,6) , and
C (3,-1)
:
Plot these three coordinates A B C on the graph paper. Also plot point P at -7,-1
:
Looking at this you can see two right triangles, PBC and PAC
It's easy to see height of these triangles = 10, from x = -7 to x = +3
The base of PBC = 5
The base of PAC = 2
:
Find the area of the larger triangle, subtract the area of the smaller triangle
that will equal the area of triangle ABC
:
*5*10 = 25
*2*10 = 10
--------------------
triangle ABC area = 15
