the only thing i can think of is that the 2 isosceles triangles are joined at the base.
in that case they would form a square with the diagonal being the base of the 2 triangles formed.
abcd is the square going around clockwise from the top left corner.
dab is one isosceles triangle.
bcd is the other isosceles triangle.
the common base is bd.
the 2 equal legs of the first triangle are da and ab.
the 2 equal legs of the second triangle are bc and cd.
4a refers to da and ab and bc and cd and means the triangles are congruent with the common base making all 3 corresponding sides of each triangle equal.
b is the common base bd.
that's the only way i can figure what they mean when they say 4a and 1b.
