Two parallel guy wires are attached to a vertical pole 4.5m and 5.4m above the ground.They are secured on the level ground at points 1.2m apart.How long are the guy wires??
---------------------
Draw and label the figure.
Let the missing part of the base be "x".
-----------------
EQUATION:
5.4/(x+1.2) = 4.5/x
5.4x = 4.5x+ 5.4
0.9x = 5.4
x = 6 meters
----------------
Now, use Pythagoras to determine the length of each wire.
