The area of this rug is the product of its dimensions


    (x+8)*(x-8) = x^2 - 64  square units.    


To find the dimensions, equate that expression to 80

    x^2 -64 = 80.


It gives

    x^2 = 80 + 64 = 144.


Then  x =  = 12  units.


Thus the dimensions are  (x+8) = 12+8 = 20 units  and  (x-8) = 12-8 = 4 units.     ANSWER


CHECK.  20*4 = 80,  the area.  ! correct !
