Question 1151729: the base of a triangle is 1in more than twice the height find the base and the height if the area of the triangle is 14sq in
Answer by ikleyn(52781)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.

You are given

     = 14,

which implies

    h*(2h+1) = 28.

Multiply both sides by 2. You will get

    2h*(2h+1) = 56.

Recalling that 56 = 7*8, it makes it obvious that 2h = 7.

Hence, h = 3.5 inches for the height and  2*3.5 + 1 = 8 inches for the base.

Surely, you can complete the solution via formal algebra;
but I showed you much shorter and simpler way.
