One angle of a triangle is three times as large as another. The measure of the third angle is 70° more than that of the smallest angle.
Find the measure of each angle.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let x be the measure of the smallest angle (in degrees).
Then the other angle measure is 3x.
The third angle measure is x + 70 degrees.
The equation is
x + 3x + (x+70) = 180.
5x = 180 - 70,
5x = 110,
x = 22.
The smallest angle is 22 degs.
