A rectangular room is 3 meters longer than it is wide, and its perimeter is 22 meters. Find the dimension of the room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let W be the width, in meters.
Then the length is W+3 meters.
For the perimeter, you have then
W + (W+3) + W + (W+3) = 22, or
4W + 6 = 22, or
4W = 22 - 6,
4W = 16,
W = = 4.
Thus the width is 4 meters.
Then the length is 4 + 3 = 7 m.
