The diagonal cuts the square into two right triangles with 45 degree. The hypotenuse is 72 ( I assume you meant 72 centimeters, not 72 squared centimeters).
If the hypotenuse is 72, then the sides are 72/sqrt(2) = 36*sqrt(2)
A square with side of 36*sqrt(2) has a perimeter of 4*36*sqrt(2)
144*sqrt(2)
