Question 627773: Question: Mr. Hoerner spent $45.50 last month to see 11 movies.
If video rentals cost $3, movie matinees cost $4.50, and evening movies cost $7,
how many of each type of movie did he see?
I came up with 2 equations: r + m + e = 11
3r+4.5m+7e=45.50,
but using substitution or additive inverses didn't work for me.

Question 631430: Please help! Could you tell me if I made a mistake in this problem and if I did, where?
3x + y = 6
x − 2y = 2
y = 6 − 3x
x − 2(6 − 3x) = 2
x − 12 − 6x = 2
−5x − 12 = 2
+12 +12
x = −2.8
3(−2.8) + y = 6
−8.4 + y = 6
+8.4 +8.4
y = 14.4
