Question 32649: xy=21
y=3x-2
could you please help me with this non-linear system of equations?
I started the problem x(3x-2)=21 then I got 3x^2-2x-21=0, but I didn't know where to go from there. Question is from my homework, textbook: Stepping through college algebra one step at a time. author: Robert J Rapalje, Ed.D.
Thank you for your help.

Question 32929: Solve the equation.
4x-1 / x^2+5x-14 = 1/x-2 - 2/x+7
Solve the system of equations.
1.) y= -5x-2
y= -3x
2.) 3x - y = 5
-4x + y = -5
3.) 2x - y = -1
2x + z = -6
3y - z = 7
I really need help on these problems I have done these problems over and over again until I am getting frustrated with myself. I need help. I am not sure if you are supposed to plug in the -3x into the other problem in question one. I am not sure if you are supposed to just add the x and y values and then solve for y in problem 2. Are you supposed to use cramers rule for problme three. Please help me I am struggling with these problems. I need somebody to help understand the process of each problem so I will understand the problems come test time on Monday. Thanks for your time and help it is greatly appreciated.

Question 32993: Divide:
x^2 + 12x + 35/x^2 + 4x - 5 / x^2 + 3x - 28 / x-1
Find (f + g)(7) when f(x)= x + 5 and g(x)= -x^2 - 6
I tried wroking out the first problem and kept getting (x+5)/(x+5)(x+4)
Im not sure if the x+5 cancels and leaves x+4. Please help. And for the second problem im confused on what to do. Please help.

Question 33423: Maybe it is because the problem is so long it is overwhelming or maybe it is just going right over my head, but can someone please help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated......
The formula for calculating the amount of money returned for an initial deposit money into a bank account or CD (Certificate of Deposit) is given by A = P (1 + r/n)^nt
A is the amount of returned.
P is the principal amount initially deposited.
r is the annual interest rate (expressed as a decimal).
n is the compound period.
t is the number of years.
Suppose you deposit $10,000 for 2 years at a rate of 10%.
a) Calculate the return (A) if the bank compounds annually (n = 1).
b) Calculate the return (A) if the bank compounds quarterly (n = 4).
c) Calculate the return (A) if the bank compounds monthly (n = 12).
d) Calculate the return (A) if the bank compounds daily (n = 365).
e) What observation can you make about the increase in your return as your compounding increases more frequently?
f) If a bank compounds continuous, then the formula takes a simpler, that is
A = Pe^rt
where e is a constant and equals approximately 2.7183.
Calculate A with continuous compounding.
g) Now suppose, instead of knowing t, we know that the bank returned to us $15,000 with the bank compounding continuously. Using logarithms, find how long we left the money in the bank (find t).
h) A commonly asked question is, “How long will it take to double my money?” At 10% interest rate and continuous compounding, what is the answer?

Question 33377: The volume of a cylinder is given by V = πr^2h where r is the radius of the cylinder and h is the height of the cylinder. Suppose the volume of the can is 100 cubic centimeters.
a) Write h as a function of r.
b) What is the measurement of the height if the radius of the cylinder is 2 centimeters?
c) Graph this function.

Question 33379: An open-top box is to be constructed from a 6 by 8 foot rectangular cardboard by cutting out equal squares at each corner and the folding up the flaps. Let x denote the length of each side of the square to be cut out.
a)Find the function V that represents the volume of the box in terms of x.
b)Graph this function.
c)Using the graph, what is the value of x that will produce the maximum volume?

Question 33375: I need to find the coordinates and graph, can someone please help?……. For a fixed rate, a fixed principal amount, and a fixed compounding cycle, the return is an exponential function of time.
Using the formula, A= P(1+ r/n)^ nt, let r = 10%, P = 1, and n =1 and give the coordinates (t, A) for the points where t = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4.

Question 33798: This is a systems of equations problem and I need to solve for x,y,z. I do not how to get any of the variables or what steps to take to get the answers.
The problem:
2x-5y+ ___=-22
__+y+3z=10
x+___+8z=15
The underscores represents blanks or O
If this had to be an augmented matrix, how would I do that and get those variables?

Question 35015: Ok right now in algebra class we are learning about "standard form" w/ linear equations.. i don't really understand how to slove and i keep getting it wrong.. the formula for solving & answering it is Ax+By=C. Why i keep getting it wrong is when i do the problem, it always comes out as (example) 6=3x+5y, when it SHOULD come out to 3x+5y=6.. I just dont understand how i am solving it wrong!! help!!
