Question 29518: I need your help with solving equations as relations. The problem is as follows:
3x=2y - 1 a. (1,2) b.(-1,-1) c.(-2,-5/2) d.(0,-1/2)
I tried and this is what i got:
3x=2y - 1 Add one to the 3x
3x + 1=2y You get 4x = 2y
4x = 2y Divide 4x by 2y and you get 2xy.
I dont think I did that right and thats not one of my multiple choice answers. Thanks,
Addy

Question 30389: Hello. Ok the problem that I am having with my homework is this. The question says to solve each system of equations by using the substitution method. I am already aware that the problem here will have two answers so here it is
y=2x
x+y=12
I have tried to subtract the y value from the x+y=12, but I am not sure what I am doing!

Question 28856: The Equations are:
2500x+400y=19050
1200x+500y=1900
I need to find both x and y, but it also needs to be solved using the Elimination/Combination method. Everytime I try it, I get a different answer, and some of the numbers look way out of range when I do it.

Question 29616: I am not even sure I am asking this in the right section, but you guys have been great can you help me with this problem and show how you did it. We are covering "interpolation" Thanks so much I dont know what I would do without this site.
here is the table I have been given
age Monthly life insurance premium per $20,000 coverage
20 4.00
30 6.32
40 8.64
50 10.96
60 13.28
how old is the person if their premium for $20,000 in coverage is $6.90

Question 30852: Need your help! I am a parent of a 9th grade student who is having a problem with his algebra homework. He is working on "Sysytems of Equations", if you could please give my son some help with the following word problem, this may then help with the rest of his homework.
The difference between two numbers is 16. Three times the larger number is seven times the smaller number. What are the numbers?

Question 30859: Hello, I am not good at intermediate algebra. In fact I do not understand anything and I feel about yay tall. I feel very small. Anyways here is the questions 1. Solve the system of equations using the subtraction method...3x+y=2 and 2x-y=3. 2. Solve the system of equations using the addition (elimination) method.....9x-2y=2 and 3x+5y=5 and the next is ...Solve the equations using the addition (elimination) method... 3x-11y=9 and -9x+33y=18. My online algebra instructor is from greece and I do not understand her at all and she is horrible at spelling and she will not let us take notes what-so-ever.

Question 31287: I am an old student back in college taking Beginning algebra. We are doing systems of equations and inequalities. Two questions involving solving eq. by addition. 4(x+1)=17-3(y-1),2(x+2)+3(y-1)=9
Second question:3x-16=5y,33-5y=4x both are systems.
Thank you,Liz

Question 31320: This one is tough, 4x=3(4-y),3y=4(2-x)
I rewrote the equations to be:4x+3y=12 & 4x-3y= -8 both are systems. The chapter is solving systems of equations by addition.
So I mulitplied 4(3)+3(3)=12(3) to get 12x+9y=36
Next eq. 4(3)-3(3)= -8 to get 12x-9y= -24
I tried to add and got x=0.5 and I tried to put 0.5 back into the other eq. but something seems wrong. Did I go wrong in my math? Or is this an inconsistent equation?
Thank you, Liz

Question 31324: 3x-16=5y,33-5y=4x This is solving systems of equations by addition. I rewrote them to be: 3x-5y=16,4x+5y= -33
I added then together to find x and came up with x= -17 I tried to put it back into the other equation like: 3(-17)-5(-17)=16(-17) to get -51-85y= -272 and it just doesn't look right. Did I mis-calculate?
Thanks, Liz

Question 31404: find the minimum or maximum value of the quadratic function.
f(x)=-x^2-x+2
I get:
-(-1)/[2(-1)]=
-(-1)/-2=
x=1/2
then:
y=-(1/2)^2-(1/2)+2
=-(1/4)-(1/2)+2
=-(1/4)-(2/4)+8/4
=5/4
My book says the answer is 9/4.
Could someone show me where I am going wrong?
