16-4x=-2(x-1)
Also I would think twenty four subtracted from 3 times a number is 12. Written like this 24-3x=12 but again I see the answer as 3x-24=12. Which one is right?

For your first question, substitute each of the values for x in the equation and do the arithmetic. One of the values will give you a true statement, and the other will give you a false statement.

For the other one, if I subtract x from y, I get y - x
