Question 964470: Using the elimination to solve each system of equations
{{y=3x-5 and x-y=13}}

Answer by t0hierry(194)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You have two equations
two unknowns
y = 3x - 5
what is x?
x = y + 13 (2nd equation)
so
y = 3(y + 13) - 5
= 3y + 39 - 5
= 3y + 34
thus
y - 3y = 34
-2y = 34
y = -17
plug back into 2nd equation
x = -17 + 13
x = -4
