2x + 10y= -26

Simplify the 2nd equation divide by 2 and you have
3x - 5y = 21
x + 5y = -13
------------------Addition eliminates y, find x
4x = 8
x = 8/4
x = 2

Find y using the 2nd original equation; replace x with 2
2(2) + 10y = -26
4 + 10y = -26
10y = - 26 - 4
10y = -30
y = -30/10
y = -3

Check solutions in the 1st equation, replace x with 2; and y with -3
3(2) - 5(-3) = 21
6 - (-15) = 21
minus a minus is a plus
6 + 15 = 21; checks our solutions
