Question 841926: |2x-1|=5 i really have no idea how to start this
Answer by josgarithmetic(39617) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The entire left side as an absolute value could be treated as a variable. It MUST be positive, being an absolute value, and it is. The right hand member is positive 5.
You know |2x-1| is positive, but you must allow for 2x-1 being separately positive(or zero) and negative.
For the case ,
|2x-1|=2x-1.
For the case ,
|2x-1|=-(2x-1)=1-2x.
Do you know what to do now?
